‘The Broken Heart Dress’: Cardiac artwork and paint applied to a base of barely worn children’s size 7 Crew Cuts dress (shoulder to hem: 26 inches; shoulder to shoulder 10.5 inches). Multiple layers of acrylic paint applied over weeks. In some places muted red glitter has been added to paint for depth. Final layer is an intermittently applied gloss coating giving the impression that maybe the blood isn’t dry? The silk rose was designed as a choker but I purposefully left the ties long (30 inches) so a wearer has options—the piece can be tied in hair, at the wrist, over a coat at the bicep. I also thought it was important to include because it’s always sad when dress up time is over! The dress is harder to wear outside of Halloween or the Zombie Walk but a shabby chic heart fits in with everyday clothes with fewer problems! The dress CAN be washed: swish in a bathtub holding 3.5 inches of cold water (enough water for the dress to be submerged) with a tsp of mild soap or baby shampoo then hang to dry. Same for the gothic rose. This is a one-of costume. All artistic processes involved non toxic materials. I hope you like my work.
