Kitchen Helper THE ROLE The Prep Cook plays a key role in supporting the daily food service operations at Shawnigan, where we provide meals for 700–850 students, staff, and guests on campus each day. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining environment, including washing dishes and cookware, setting up the dining hall, and performing general cleaning duties. The role also supports waste management by handling compost, recycling, and garbage, and assists the kitchen team with other tasks as needed to ensure smooth meal service. Wage & Benefits: Our full-time Kitchen Helper positions offer a wage of $20.70 per hour plus health and dental benefits (after 3 months). We also offer professional development opportunities, supporting staff who are interested in pursuing Red Seal, WHMIS, and other culinary training. Work Hours: Weekend availability (Saturdays and Sundays) is highly preferred. As our kitchen operates 7 days a week, we also welcome candidates with flexible availability throughout the week. WHAT YOU BRING • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, preferably with 1 years’ experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment • Calm under pressure, self-motivated, and able to work independently while knowing when to ask for guidance • Strong communicator with a positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset • Physically fit and able to handle long periods on your feet, lifting up to 50 lbs., and the fast pace of a busy kitchen • FOODSAFE Level 1 and WHMIS certifications are an asset.
