This is the ammo case from a Browning MG. My research indicates WW1 but no expert so maybe early WW2. The indentation in front and the grooves on either side are for mounting the case to the tripod or more likely the MG itself. The stencil reads CHEST 49-1-84. Almost certainly the original paint too: it is faded green and faded black stencilling. All the hardware have numbers engraved in them. This is a rare piece in very good condition for its age. Everything works as it should and only a small crack on one side after all these years. Reproductions go for a couple of hundred bucks but this original is yours for $125.
