$100 · Authentic Berlin Wall Fragment Certificate, 10 November 1989.

Visited Berlin, Germany a few months following the fall of the Berlin Wall on 09 November 1989 with an arranged tour group put on by my unit at CFB Lahr. Was quite stark the living conditions between the West and East (Communist GDR) side. All the buildings were heated by coal, and the black soot was everywhere. Visited the location were the wall stood, and by then, there were still allot of the wall remaining untouched. Picked up the souvenir certificate at established “tourist area”, as by then, portions were designated off-bounds to “looting”. This is the start of the Cold War thawing for us.
