Private Childcare: More Affordable Than Daycare

Did you know that private childcare could actually be more affordable than daycare? In response to the ongoing shortage of childcare spaces in BC, a new short-term immigration program will open this Spring, allowing families to hire a private childcare worker from overseas. This is a fair and equitable program as the Child Care Provider and their family will be eligible for Permanent Residency. Here’s why this program could work for you: • Affordable rates: The required wage is approximately $19/hr for a minimum of 30 hours per week—often more affordable than daycare options. (Wages are reviewed annually to ensure fairness.) • No live-in requirement: The position is not live-in, so you don’t need to worry about having extra space in your home. • Income eligibility: Families who earned over $78,000 in 2023 are eligible (lower income thresholds may apply for smaller families or those in smaller cities). • Extra help around the house: In addition to childcare, providers can assist with tasks like cooking and cleaning. • We’ll support you: Our firm will help you hire a childcare worker, at no cost, and provide ongoing support for your provider upon their arrival.
