This set of 6" plates, one 15" platter and a sauce boat and saucer is in exceptional shape. There is some fading of the back of the plate trade marks on some of pieces. In the late 1920', early 1930's Shorter and Son, of England, " Fish Ware", earthenware. Early sets comprised of a large serving plate and six medium sized plates. A reference in the Pottery Gazette in 1935 records that a Fish Set in "matte grey glaze, ornamented in brown" was purchased by the Queen Mother, then the Duchess of York. The following year the range was extended to include a sauce boat with stand, a cover dish and an extra-large platter known as a "Pike". This information suggests that this set can perhaps be dated as early as 1936. https://www.thepotteries.org/allpotters/919.htm
