"Robin was among the most talented ceramic artists in an area rich in accomplished potters. He was proficient in many delicate forms and glazes, from raku to salt-glaze." This vase is in excellent condition. It is beautifully formed, slightly taller than it is wide; and decorated with a special tenmoku glaze. Tenmoku is a kind of ceramic glaze. Glossy, very dark brown or maroon, edges crystalizing, firing at high temperature in reduction atmospheres. This high-fired piece is a fine example of his craft, as well as his sensibility for form and color. It is marked on the base with his stamp. "Robin Righton was born in Kimberley B.C. in 1947 and died in Victoria B.C. in 1999. He attended the Kootenay School of Art in Nelson B.C. from 1968 to 1971 and was a studio apprentice at the Clay Association in Calgary, Alberta from 1971 to 1972. He established a studio in Victoria, British Columbia called Swan Lake Pottery. For 27 years he plied his craft leaving behind a legacy of beautiful studio ceramics of which this is a prime example. He also exhibited stoneware vases in Faenza, Italy and has had exhibitions in Alberta, Vancouver and Victoria." The piece measures 9" high X 8" wide at the widest point. There are no chips or cracks. This is a beautiful piece of BC pottery, worthy of a significant collection. It would make an awesome Christmas gift! Please call 250 658-0587 to view.
