My wife bought this bike brand new in 2001. She is inseam-challenged so we had the bike professionally lowered. We still have the stock links if you wanted to put it back to original height. We’ve done some great trips with our KLRs, backcountry touring in Canada, the US, and Mexico. We’ve finally accepted the fact that we’re a couple of seniors and too old to do this kind of riding safely anymore. This bike is the older version of the KLR which means that all the flaws in the original design are a known item. We upgraded all the important ones within 2 years of buying this bike. It's been carefully maintained and has always run reliably wherever we have gone. Doo-Hickey has been replaced (engine chain tension balancer) Carburetor was professionally dismantled and cleaned in an ultrasonic tank last month Proper lowering kit (including side-stand) heated grips Oversize front disc brake Acerbis Barkbuster Hand Guards engine guard skid plate Mirror mount upgrade Upgraded rear shock Luggage racks (but no luggage)
