PRODUCTION AND MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - $1,500.00 Sign on Bonus!

$1,500.00 Sign on Bonus! Reporting to the Production and Maintenance Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of production, packaging and supply chain equipment as well as the facilities at Seastar Chemicals ULC (Sidney location). MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Follows established safety standards and policies and Production and Maintenance Operating Guidelines (POG's & MOG's) including the ability to wear all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) - Capable of starting/stopping and checking automated chemical manufacturing equipment - Responsible for handling, calculating and diluting and pumping acid feedstocks - Works closely with all Production and Maintenance personnel to arrange feedstock delivery to meet the required service levels - Keeps proper departmental log books and records related to feedstock, pumping, operation of equipment and maintenance performed (manual and electronic) - Capable of installing, operating and maintaining production, packaging and supply chain equipment. This includes the stills, chillers, pumps, neutralization system and HVAC/Scrubbers as well as the building facilities. - Works with the Production & Maintenance associates to maintain silos, stillrooms, tanks, lines and pumps - Communicate timelines to repair and status of equipment failures in an effective manner to ensure maximum plant and facility reliability. - Responsible for the preventative maintenance program and documentation including annual requirements and budgets for equipment/facilities that need to be replaced. - Assist with the organization and execution of annual maintenance week or comparable activities. - Keeps the outside apron neat and clean, including trench drains. - Ensures the silos are in good working order. - Prepares the weekend preparedness documentation - Contributes to weekend and emergency Production and Maintenance coverage - Performs other duties as assigned by the Production and Maintenance manager MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent is required Post secondary education in Chemistry or Physics is an asset EXPERIENCE 1-3 years experience in a chemical manufacturing or manufacturing environment an asset Experience related to clean room manufacturing and trouble shooting contamination issues is an asset Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment and corrosion resistance requirements KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently) - Good oral and written communication skills - Ability to think independently, prioritize and handle projects through to completion in a timely manner - Proficient in the use of basic office computer software - Demonstrated mechanical ability. - Strong basic chemistry skills - Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) - Critical decision-making skills, creativity, multi-tasking ability - Ability to follow written procedures and policies ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports directly to the production and maintenance manager. ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions) The associate is required to stand and walk for the majority of the working day. The physical requirements of the job are for associates to talk, hear, bend/stoop, squat, crawl, climb height, reach above shoulder height, crouch, kneel, balance, and push/pull. Furthermore, the job requires associates to lift/carry/push or pull up to 75 pounds with or without assistance. Associates use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating as well as both feet for repetitive movement operating foots controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS - This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be flexible to to accommodate timing of production and maintenance related projects - Overtime as required to accomplish assignments. - Must be available for weekend duty days (usually a couple of hours) and alarm call outs as required
