Reporting to the Director of Engineering, Parks & Environment, the Manager of Engineering Services has a wide-ranging portfolio of professional engineering and administrative responsibilities within the Engineering, Parks & Environment Department including the oversight of the City’s Capital Program, Utility Planning, Asset Management and Development Servicing. The Manager of Engineering Services manages both technical and professional staff, including those in the bargaining unit. For the Capital Program, the Manager of Engineering Services oversees the Capital Section staff to identify projects, develop scope and budget as well as managing the annual Program through the planning, design and construction phases. This position also oversees the selection of consultants and contractors. The Manager of Engineering Services oversees the City’s Asset Management Program as well as the master planning for all Utilities. As the City continues to see rapid population growth there are significant development projects underway in the City ranging from multi-phased high-density sites through to smaller single-family subdivisions. The Manager of Engineering Services provides guidance on engineering infrastructure requirements. Establishing and maintaining effective working relations with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and representing the City at committees is also a component of the role. Your inclusive and supportive leadership approach, communication, interpersonal and customer service skills are integral to working collaboratively with the team and key stakeholders delivering results and innovative solutions that support Council priorities, community growth and infrastructure. Your previous accomplishments demonstrate your ability to pro-actively identify issues, navigate contentious situations effectively and to continuously seek improvement and/or efficiencies. A University degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience in municipal engineering or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Applicants must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia or be eligible to be registered within one year. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is also required.
