Artist: Robert Vigil, Nambe Pueblo, New Mexico (signed by the artist) The Avanyu (Horned Serpent) symbol is scratched into the surface of the pot. The method is called sgraffito. The pot is made from micaceous clay which contains mica chips that result in a shiny surface when burnished. The surface interest comes from the action of the flames and smoke during the firing. The blackened bits are called fire cloud. 4-1/4 " diameter, 6" tall A piece like this one would normally sell for about $275 US.
