I’ve owned the car since 2015 when I bought it out of a barn complete and “running”. I spent about a year restoring it to a drivable condition. This included welding in new steel segments to replace corroded body work. The engine is a 1600 that appears to be from a 1971 and the rear fenders are from a 1970s model year. Many parts both old and new can be included. Odometer has definitely rolled over at least once but currently shows ~12,000 miles Body Work: • It looks like the floor plans have been replaced in the past and they are in great, solid condition. I replaced the steel under the batter tray. • Carpet and tar sound deadening material removed and replaced with new carpet and modern automotive underlay. • Hood, rear deck-lid, drivers side door, rocker panels all replaced and painted. • Passenger side door has rust bubbles but included with the car is a prepped and primed replacement door that just needs final top coat and assembly (every part needed to complete the door is included) • OEM vintage VW pop-out rear windows . • I had the rear bumper professionally re-chromed and it's better than original. Nicest bumper you'll find on a VW :P Power train: • Engine is a 1600 Dual-port from a 1972 (based on its serial number). I’ve done nothing with the engine since purchase apart from oil changes, carb rebuild and patching oil leaks. • Transmission is an unknown vintage but was disassembled, inspect and rebuilt with new seals, bearings and o-rings where appropriate. New outer wheel bearings, new throw-out bearing, clutch pivot arm assembly • New throttle cable, clutch cable Brakes: • New master cylinder • Rear drum brakes fully rebuilt with new cylinders, shoes, springs, etc • Front uprights replaced with Ghia upright to accommodate disk brake conversion. All parts new. Suspension, steering: • Shock absorbers came with the car, appear to be in good condition so I’ve not replaced them • One front pivot arm, bearings and seals replaced. • New upper and lower ball joints all around. • New inner and outer tie rod ends. • New pitman arm on the steering box. • Tires are "new" installed in 2017 but only have ~5000miles on them. • Brand new set of steel wheels still in the box can be included.
