Peer Outreach Volunteers Needed

Are you a person with a disability who enjoys meeting new people and having conversations? Do you want to help make a difference in the lives of individuals in the persons with disabilities community? Would you like to volunteer your time remotely from the comfort of home? If so, then the VDRC Peer Outreach Program has a volunteer opportunity for you! The Peer Outreach Program serves as a way to bring a helpful voice and community connectivity to persons with disabilities experiencing isolation and loneliness. As a Peer Outreach volunteer, you will schedule one-on-one check-ins with individuals who sign up for the program, via phone, email, text, or video call. Volunteers will provide program participants with the opportunity to have some pleasant conversation about whatever is on their mind, or even potentially connect them with any help or resources they may require. Ideal Peer Outreach volunteers should meet the following requirements: *good communication skills *comfortable calling and talking to people you don’t know *ability to make small talk and initiate conversation *comfortable sharing a bit about yourself In addition, volunteers should also ideally possess the following computer skills: *ability to send and receive emails *ability to use Google Docs in Google Drive *organizational skills *ability to take good notes *ability to track and record data/stats If you are interested in applying to be a part of this fun and immensely rewarding program, please contact the Peer Outreach Lead Coordinator at educator@drcvictoria.com or 250-595-0044, extension 112, or the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@drcvictoria.com or 250-595-0044, extension 109.
