Machine Lead Hand and Production Supervisor

Role Summary: Reporting to the AGN Nursery Manager, the Machine Lead Hand and Production Supervisor will be a key member of our production team. This is a role for someone with experience in nursery production or tree planting who knows a good tree when they see it and can help all team members on the lift line with our three priorities: safety, quality and production. In this role you will develop your people skills as team leader to staff working in a number of production areas starting with our seedling harvest (lift). With an annual production cycle, there are different tasks staff perform that you will learn to supervise including: sowing, thinning, moving, and crop care. With the diversity in tasks, a keen interest in constant learning is necessary. The successful candidate in this role will have opportunities for advancement to our management team. Duties and Responsibilities: In the first 2 months: • Participate in and role model AGN’s safety program • Function as part of the first aid team assisting in preventative injury management (MSI reduction) • Assume a team leader role (machine lead hand) during lift, under direction of the lift coordinator o Check seedling quality on lift line o Coach graders to improve grading results o Check cull bin to ensure good trees are not being culled o Check to ensure sufficient moisture level in plugs going into boxes o Check to ensure correct trees/bundle, bundles/box and correct packing o Check to ensure box shipping labels are accurate o Communicate with Nursery Manager frequently and as scheduled In the First 6 months: • Assume a supervisory role during lift for the entire lift team After 12 months: • Become the “go-to” person for questions of quality, safety and order fulfillment • Supervise various work project teams such as sowing, thinning and crop maintenance throughout the year as required Please view full job description and details plus instructions to apply at: www.arbutusgrove.com/careers
